1/2 cup Crisco oil

1 egg

2 cups sugar

2 1/2 cups flour

1 1/2 cups applesauce

1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon cloves

1/2 cup water

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon allspice

1/2 cup nuts

1/2 cup raisins, optional

Instructions: Cream Crisco, egg and sugar. Add other ingredients, applesauce, water, nuts and raisins, if desired; mix well.

Pour into a cake pan and bake for 1 hour at 350*.

Background: Note: I use a 13x9x2-inch pan. Then dust with confectioners sugar.
